Need a date for a Christmas Party, or Holiday Party? Find A Date Here!

In the last 3 weeks I’ve been inundated with emails from people telling me they need a date for an upcoming Christmas party for either work or with friends. They wanted to know if they could find someone on the site for a platonic (friend only) date for a Holiday Party.  Of course my answer is YES!  That’s one of the main reasons I created RentAFriend.com!

Almost all companies have some sort of Christmas party or Holiday party that employees are allowed to bring a date to.  Though it’s great for people who are in relationships, it’s sometimes uncomfortable for people who are single and don’t want to go by themselves.
These are just a few of the reasons people have emailed me requesting more information about the site. Though all of the reasons might not be the most moral (one specifically stands out: I don’t want my co-workers to realize I’m married to a drunk, so I want to hire a Friend who is polite, quiet and will not take advantage of an open bar) I think it’s good to see some reasons why people are requesting Friends for their holiday date:
1. I’m single and have no one to go with.
2. My significant other is away, doesn’t want to go, has other things already planned.
3. My wife/husband/boyfriend/girlfriend does not know how to handle their alcohol and I’m nervous what they might say or do.
4. I want to impress my friends/boss/acquaintances and I want to bring a Friend who is: smart, good looking, professional, etc.

No matter what your reason is for wanting a Friend to go with, know that you are not the only one looking.

RentAFriend.com is a very easy way to find a date for your upcoming party fast and conveniently.  Just enter your zip code on the site, and you will instantly see all of the Friends that are available in your area. http://www.RentAFriend.com

Rent a tour guide for cheap vacations RentAFriend.com story

I was hearing stories of such wonderful ways people were using RentAFriend.com . People who travel for a living were making arrangements to meet Friends before they even left to a new city. I didn’t even know this until I read about it in a news article recently that did a story on RentAFriend.com. A father, mother and 2 children drove down to Florida from Virginia for vacation. They were on a strict budget, and the father decided to contact a Friend from RentAFriend.com who lived in Florida to create an itinerary of attractions around Disney that were affordable and cheap. Things like museums, parks, that didn’t have high admission prices, sightseeing, discount shopping, stuff like that. He had planned the vacation the previous year, but because of the economy his company downsized. He was fortunate to be able to keep his job, but had to take a pay cut. He still wanted to go on vacation, but it was going to be on a more fixed budget than they were planning on. He only had $1000 total for 7 days, and wanted to extend it as far as possible. He paid the Friend $40 to make him up a 7 day itinerary with enough activities for the week. The Friend told him the cheapest supermarkets so they could prepare meals, drew maps of off the beaten path museums and things that would take up their time without spending too much.

Once he got down to Florida the family met the Friend for lunch and the Friend gave him a ton of great information. I was shocked to learn from the article that Florida residents get 50% admission to the Disney Parks. Not sure how legal this is, but the Friend offered to be the resident to get their family into Disney. They originally weren’t planning on going, because $300 for the 4 of them was way out of their price range. Not only did the Friend offer to allow them to get the 50% discount, but she also had a buy-1-get-1 coupon for 1 free admission. It actually cost him around $100 to get into the park. The Friend also told them about attending a day of timeshare presentations to get free breakfast and 4 free passes to another park. Information that the Friend offered was common knowledge to people down in the Disney area, but not widely advertised to people traveling there. Once I heard this, it was extremely clear that the best way to learn about new areas is from people who live there. Locals are the best way to learn about the best restaurants, best shopping areas, and can tell you things that you would have never read about.

Is RentAFriend.com catching up to Facebook? Not even close….

But, I’m happy to announce that RentAFriend.com now has over 300,000 Friends from around the world available for rent!  Thanks to the great AOL article about RentAFriend.com last week: http://jobs.aol.com/articles/2010/10/21/how-to-make-money-rent-a-friend/ the site pushed past the 300k Friend mark. Obviously that is in no comparison to Facebook’s 500 million users, but it’s not bad for only being online for a year.

If you are looking to get paid to be a friend you can apply here

Just Divorced, Recently Broken Up, or Separated? Learn the new rules for playing the field

I’m writing about getting back into the dating scene for a few reasons. A lot of people who break up don’t know what the next step they should take to get back into socializing. Even if they are ready to start dating again, it could be years since their last date. This post is for both men AND woman. I’m writing for everyone…

Are you recently divorced or split up after a long term relationship? We all know that getting back into dating scene can be a very difficult, confusing and stressful time. Especially if you were with someone for a long time and haven’t been playing the field.

When was the last time you went on a date with someone?  Has it been more than 2 or 3 years? Because if it has been, then you need to learn the new rules to dating. Things change yearly with new technology, social standards, mannerisms and more. Now that you are going to be playing the field again, it’s important to learn what the new rules to dating are! (And yes, the rules to dating change every year…) and just to give you some examples. 20 years ago the dating scene was very different than it is today. People would go to dinner, and a movie. Now a day’s most people don’t do dinner and movie any more. Going to a movie is not a good way to get to know someone, and eating dinner together might be too formal for a first date.

Dating today is different than it was, and it will continue to change. No matter if you are a male or a female, or if you are straight, bisexual, or even bicurious…what should you expect on a date: Pulling out a chair, holding doors, paying the bill, things to talk about/things definitely NOT to talk about. It’s important that you learn what is now the social standard when dating. 5 years ago MySpace was the “in” website, but today it’s Facebook being the social standard. Is it ok to Facebook someone new right away? You might think it could be a good way to learn about someone, but do you want them seeing who you are friends with, the pictures you are in, and reading what your friends post on your page? These are just a few things to think about…

Even the location of where you live can play a huge role in dating. What might be socially acceptable in New York City, might make someone cringe in Nebraska. When you were in a long term relationship, did you move? Are you living in an area that you have never been single before?  The last time you went on a date, if you were more than 100 miles away from the new town you are in now, things can be different.

10 years ago it wasn’t socially accepted to tell people you are on dating websites, where as today almost everyone knows a couple who have met, fallen in love and have even married thanks to a dating website. Many of the people will even be proud to admit it!

SO……………………………………you might be thinking, how can I learn what is right/wrong and how to play the field again? You can go on every date you can make and learn from what works/doesn’t work by trial and error. A plus is that you would most likely meet a lot of new people, but the drawback is you might be ruining chances with someone you could have potential with. If you say or do the wrong thing on the date, the person you are with might be turned off, or offended by what you say.

Not only do I have the better option, but I have the solution. Practice dates.
You might be asking, what’s a “practice date”? Good question, but it’s exactly what it is… it’s a practice date. The best way to go about doing so is to find someone who you can talk to and explain your situation to. Explain to them that you want to get back into the dating game, but aren’t too sure what to do. Ask them if you could go on a practice date with them. Tell them that you are not looking to get involved with them, but you want them to give you advice by pretending to be your date.

Now I will explain how RentAFriend.com can help you get back into playing the field. RentAFriend.com has over 283,000 Friends from around the world. Most likely there are Friends living near you. (you can search 100% for free to see if there are available friends by visiting the website). Next you can join RentAFriend.com and become a member. Being a member of the website will allow you to contact any of the Friends on the site. Next you want to look for someone that is the same age as the person you would be interested in dating. This is important because you want someone who can relate to the age of the person you are interested in.  Explain to them your situation, (If you are a member you can call the Friend directly on the phone or email them through our anonymous messaging system to protect your identify) and tell them what you are looking to do. Explain that you are out of a long term relationship and are looking to start dating soon, but you are looking for someone who can help you with the social standards of dating in 2010.  Tell the Friend you are looking to go out on a “practice” date to re-freshen up on your dating manners. Tell them you just want to be guided and critiqued on what to do and not do on a date. Explain to them you are not interested in dating them, but are interested in renting them to help you practice your interactions.  Not only will you learn a lot from the Friend, but the practice will also increase your confidence.

RentAFriend.com is NOT a dating website, so it’s important that you are honest with the Friend and explain to them your situation and reasons for hiring them. Tell them about your concerns you are having about getting back into dating.

RentAFriend.com is strictly a platonic friendship website where you can rent a new friend to show you around a new area, help introduce you to new people, attend a wedding or business event with you and much more.
